Prayatna Nepal organized a Feminist Dialogue Series on August 8, 2026, at Hotel Utsab Himalaya, Lakeside, Pokhara, bringing together 21 girls and women with visual impairments to create a safe and inclusive space for sharing lived experiences and identifying solutions to challenges they face.
The session, facilitated by Ms. Sarita Lamichhane, began with a confidentiality oath to ensure a secure environment for open discussion. Under the theme “Only If I Had Spoken on That Day,” participants shared personal experiences of discrimination, violence, abuse, stigma, and social exclusion related to visual disability. The emotional discussions highlighted the barriers many women continue to face and the importance of safe spaces for expression and solidarity.
Following the sharing session, participants discussed how Prayatna Nepal could better support women with disabilities and suggested practical initiatives, including basic makeup and personal grooming training, Nepali handwriting classes for women with low vision, cooking training, and financial literacy programs focused on digital share trading and investment. The dialogue provided valuable insights into the needs and aspirations of women with visual disabilities and helped identify future program priorities.
The event concluded with appreciation to all participants for their courage and contributions, while reaffirming the importance of privacy and confidentiality. As an outcome, 21 women with disabilities gained an opportunity to share difficult experiences in a supportive environment and recommend activities that could strengthen their confidence, skills, and independence
